Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

The world we live in gives us the idea that we have to strive to perfection to achieve happiness. But happiness is a journey, not a destination. So here are the little things that help me achieve happiness every single day.

Put on your favorite music. There is no better way than music to boost your brain. When you feel uninspired, tired or sad, music can change your state of mind. For me music is a daily essential. It wakes me up in the mornings, gets me motivated to work out, increases my energy level and makes me relax at night before I go to bed. It brings you pure joy.

Clean the clutter. Clutter is an absolute mood killer for me. Look around you, find the things that are out of place and put them back where they belong. A clear space immediately gives you a calm and happy environment. And cleaning with some music on might even go so fast you feel like Mary freakin’ Poppins.

Spread the love. Give someone a compliment. Tell someone how grateful you are to have them around. Help a stranger. Or just smile. It might be a little uncomfortable at first. But there is nothing more rewarding than making someone’s day with some kindness. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Get out there: Take a walk, get out there and explore. Nowadays we are all clustered to our electronics, but we forget about what’s really around us. Going for a walk instantly makes me feel better. It clears my mind and makes me appreciative of the world we live in. Going for a walk makes you see the beauty around you. Sunshine on your face or wind through your hair, a cute old couple that’s crazy in love or kids building a snowman,… I can keep going, but I think you get my point. Enjoy the little things!

Dance it out. Last but not least. Especially for all you Grey’s Anatomy lovers out there. Simple and effective. Just stop overthinking, turn up the music and bust a move. Sometimes the best you can do is “Shut up and dance it out!”.

Keep on smiling,

Han

Stop wishing, start doing!

You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Stop wishing, start doing!

When it comes to working out everybody has a different starting point and goal. But everybody needs to get motivated to work towards their personal goal. For me my goal is to obtain a healthy body that will take me on many adventures for the rest of my life. Every accomplishment starts with a decision to try.

My workout partner is my Spotify playlist. Music has the power to affect your emotions and give you the edge to push yourself further in your workout. So my workout playlist contains upbeat songs that will get you moving and songs with inspirational lyrics that reaffirm your belief in achieving your personal goal.

Remember to wake up with determination and go to bed with satisfaction.

Hope this inspires you to work towards your personal goal.

Wanderlust: a weekend-getaway in Stockholm

Ever since my first visit to Scandinavia I have been in love. The nature, the culture, the people and the way of living, they left an incredibly strong impression on me.

All my life I’ve been raised by my parents that are true wanderers. With our camping car we travelled all over Europe. The most important part of our travels took place in nature. That’s where I got my passion for the outdoors. Scandinavia has endless nature, where you can keep on discovering forgotten places. But since I was old enough to travel on my own, my friends and I took every opportunity we got to travel. We made many city trips, and one of those was Copenhagen. I knew from then on that not only Scandinavia’s nature caught my eye, but also its culture. The colorful houses, the fashion, the design and the super friendly people, you immediately feel at home.

So when I received an email from Belmodo saying I was the winner of their SAS-airlines competition, I was so excited! A new opportunity to discover a Scandinavian city. Thank you so much to Belmodo for this beautiful gift!

Stockholm 1

The City

Stockholm city is an idyllic destination. Because of all the water it’s called “Venice of the North”. The beautiful colorful architecture brings light to the city. Stockholm has something to offer for every wandering girl.

Stockholm 2

Lifestyle

If you love Scandinavian fashion, than you are in the right place. Scandinavian brands like Acne, Cos, Vila have their own stores in Stockholm. The Södermalm district offers countless vintage stores, Swedish fashion and design stores in combination with an abundance of places to eat and drink. Lifestyle heaven.

Stockholm 3

Outdoors
Green Djürgarden is the perfect district to stroll around close to the city center. But if you have more time (or better weather) the archipelago of Stockholm is the perfect spot for outdoors lovers like me. In Stockholm you’re just a boat trip away from the Swedish outdoors.

Stockholm 4

Stockholm is the perfect city for a getaway. It’s a city where you can breathe and just enjoy every moment. When I came home I felt more alive and inspired than ever before.

Happy travels,

Han

Playlist

coffeemix

I love coffee houses! However, I often miss music in the background while I’m drinking my latte. Drinking coffee is just not the same without a soundtrack that makes you feel like you’re at a hipster coffee house in Portland, sipping from your flat white. A lot of coffee houses don’t play any music, or just bad music… So to help you out, I made a playlist that will go perfectly with your coffee. Just hand it to your coffee guy, sit back and relax.

This mix is filled with folk, indierock and alternative music. You can hear the cool sounds of Arcade Fire, the heavenly voice of Sufjan Stevens and the folky tunes of Gregory Alan Isakov. And for all you True Detective fans, I added the themesong by The Handsome Family. I could listen to that song over and over… I hope you enjoy this mix and feel free to share your favorite coffeehouse music!

Now I’m off to grab a coffee…Cheers!

Every wandering girl loves… knitting!

‘Did you just say knitting?’ Why yes I did! I’m in love with cosy sweaters and chunky scarves, so what could be more fun than knitting your own design? Inspired by brands as LN Beanies and Wool and the Gang, that use supersoft materials for their handmade clothing, I bought myself some yarns of soft grey wool from Lang and started knitting a scarf. I’m using knitting needles of 9mm, perfect for thick wool.

If you’re a beginner like me and could use some help, Wool and the Gang offers kits to make your own clothing, including high quality wool and instructions on how to knit it. I bought myself the books of LN Beanies, which include patterns and instructions for different designs. It even shows you how to make a bikini! So forget about old ugly sweaters and boring designs. Knitting is cool and if you’re a real wandering girl like us, you’ll be knitting your own outfit in no time!

Goals for 2015!

resolutions

Two weeks into the new year, it’s time to wish you all a very happy new year! 2014 was an amazing year for us, and we are super excited to see what 2015 has to offer! Let’s talk resolutions …

Han:

Live healthy. After six years of studying and excuses like ‘no time or money’, it’s time for me to invest in creating a healthy way of  living. Over the last few years I became a lazy couch potato , even though I loved working out before. I never seemed to persevere longer than a few weeks. This year I want to improve my physical fitness. I want to be able to run 5 or 10 kilometers, because right now I feel like throwing up after 2 kilometers. As a part of this commitment I also want to become more conscious about what products I fuel my body with. I want to eat more healthy raw products with less sugar and unhealthy fats. Finally I decided to quit drinking alcohol. I already was someone who rarely drank alcohol, so this commitment isn’t that hard for me, it’s just something that I want to do for myself. I feel proud to say: “I don’t drink”.

Live life. Each year I make the resolution to live life to the fullest. This for me is a reminder to think positive and enjoy the little things in live every day. A few years ago I decided to fight the negative thoughts and always look for the positive. The negative things in life are not worth the energy or time. This because I think that the more time you give negativity, the more it will be present in your daily life. There will always be situations where it’s hard to see something positive but always remember: every day may not be good, but there’s something good in every day.

Be more creative. In this world full of technology I tend to get shallow-brained and lazy. I spent way to many hours watching series, scrolling through facebook and sitting on my lazy ass. This year I would like to spend more time getting creative. This can be by reading books where your imagination can do it’s own work, doing crafts, writing stories, taking pictures etc. I want to limit the technology time and just do oldskool fun things more often.

Resolutions 2015

Sandy:

It’s time to confess… I never had any new year’s resolutions! Personally, I believe you should be able to change your life at any moment, no matter what time of the year it is. Whether it’s January, May or even December. Also, I probably wouldn’t keep them…

But looking at Han’s list, I have to admit I’m a little jealous. I wish I could make these resolutions at the beginning of the year and stick to them. Although I have to say that I can already cross some of them off my list. I went on vacation alone to the US in September, I started eating more healthy in October, by starting the day with a vitamin rich breakfast (bye bye Nutella); I started crafting again in November (hello knitting needles); I took loads of pictures last year, and in January I started working out!

So actually, I kind of have resolutions too in a way, but they’re just spread over the year ;) This could be a good tip for those of you who are struggling with that endless list of resolutions. Just spread them over the whole year, and have a new challenge every month!

Let’s make it a memorable year!

Weekly snaps!

This is what we’ve been up to last week….

Han

Cosy wintery evenings. Last week I went to Leuven for a nice dinner with a friend. We went to one of my favorite restaurants, “De Wiering”. I studied in Leuven for 6 years, and when you live in a city you sometimes don’t see how beautiful it actually is. Just look at Leuven’s town hall, it’s a fairytale building right? After catching up with my friend I ended my night with a cup of tea in front of the fireplace!

Baby it’s cold outside! Last week was the moment where winter finally arrived in Belgium. I love going outside with the frosty crispy grass underneath my feet, a perfect way to clear your head.

Just do it! I have to admit it has taken me a while to be stronger than my excuses, but this week I decided it’s time to just do it! People always take a new start on the 1st of January, but why not start now, that way you already reached something amazing to start the new year with! So no more excuses for me, I braved the cold and went to the gym!

Last week I had my final lesson of a barista course I’ve been following in coffee bar Cuperus in Antwerp. Now I’m finally able to make you the perfect cappuccino, espresso or latte!! Although I’m really going to miss visiting Antwerp every week (shopping alert!)…

Almost every week, you can find me in Mechelen, my favorite city in the world (or maybe just in Belgium…). I explored new stores and indulged in the sweetest chocolate cake! This week, I finally took a look at the second hand book store, which was a really nice surprise!

On saturday night, we put our red lipstick on, got our hair done and partied like it’s 1955! Every month, Radio Modern throws one hell of a retro party, and this was my first time. But it won’t be my last. Let’s rock ‘n roll, baby!!

See you next time!!
